Brine Lauderdale
Brine is a very welcome addition to the “just outside Hobart” offerings which are getting more and more sophisticated every year. Until recently it was almost impossible to get cleverly cooked food or more likely a coffee made from excellent beans that had been selected with passion and roasted with skill.
Now there are places such as Brine in Lauderdale, Tidal Coffee in, Seven Mile Beach, the Agrarian Kitchen Kiosk and the Black Swan Bookshop – both in New Norfolk, Maxie Coffee in Kingston and Audrey in Bellerive just to name a few.
We made our first visit to Brine this weekend and we will be certain to visit again soon. The coffee was excellent and the food delicious. The service was also first class as you would expect from the people who have run the iconic Criterion Street Cafe for decades.
When we arrived on Saturday morning the place was buzzing with families enjoying breakast/lunch and curious local couples testing the coffee and the snacks that were now being served in the site of their former bakery.

The photo above shows the entrance to Brine with the outside tables removed because they were packed with weekend diners and we didn’t want to display them here.
When we arrived we indicated that we would like to sit at one of the inside tables so that we could absorb the “vibe”. We were shown to a pleasant table just inside the door quickly and the menu also was placed on the table promptly.

It didn’t take very long for us to absorb the offerings on the meny and to decide on the crumpets and the “breakfast pasta” as well as coffee.
The food arrived within a short time and both dishes looked very appetizing! The crumpets were stacked high on the plate as you can see from the photo below.

The breakfast pasta also looked very appetising and, as always, we agreed to swap our dishes halfway through so we could enjoy the flavours of eachdish.

Both dishes were excellent and the coffee that we ordered arrived promptly and both were excellent.
