Off Center – A Strong Coffee Program

Off Center – Introduction

Off Center (yes, that is the way they spell it) can be found in a quiet back street in the Launceston CBD. It is worth seeking out as it has some of the best coffee in the city and some good snacks such as toasties, mortadella sandwiches (including a delicious mortadella) and pastries which use Sandy’s Sourdough products.

The coffee here is roasted by Hutch Coffee and they have some good options that work well with espresso or filtered styles. We had a complicated “OC Blend” which was a mix of a number of coffee varieties from Colombia and Guatemala including Bourbon, Caturra, Pache, Catuai and Maragogype.

Another was a single variety (Pacas) coffee from Chalatenango in El Salvador that had been processed using the washed method. The Pacas shrubs from which the coffee was made grow at 1600 metres above sea level.

They also have a good music selection here. On our most recent visit (where we we able to enjoy a filtered coffee where the beans had been processed naturally) we enjoyed musical offerings such as Betterman by the John Butler Trio, Baby, I’m Gettin’ Better by Gyroscope and Captain (Million Miles an Hour) by Something for Kate.
