Black Cow Bistro – Introduction
Black Cow Bistro is a pleasant restaurant in Launceston serving very good beef from a range of excellent suppliers including Cape Grim Beef and Robbins Island Wagyu.

The theme for the decor is inspired by the paintings of the caves of Lascaux in France.
The menu is heavily weighted towards meat in both the entrée and main course sections making the briny oysters from Lease 65 in Moulting Bay Lagoon near St Helens which have been available on the menu for a long time and are always delicious.
The beef is of exceptional quality and cuts such as rump, porterhouse, scotch fillet, rib eye and eye fillet can be ordered in sizes ranging from 200g to beyond 400g for the serious meat eater!
At one memorable meal we tried a rib eye cooked very rare and served with a beetroot relish. This was a fine cut of meat and a good relish, but even better was a perfect piece of Cape Grim rump cooked blue and served with Black Cow butter made from butter, wine and shallots. This butter complemented the steak beautifully.
For dessert you can’t go past the very good vanilla bean crème brûlée which we seem to order every time we go there.
We have included Black Cow in our story entitled The Best of Launceston.
