Cubed Espresso Bar is a delightful place to enjoy a very good coffee while taking in the spectacular views over Eaglehawk Neck at the entrance to the Tasman Peninsula. The venue is essentially a lovingly restored and carefully re-designed caravan parked on the side of the road next to the […]
We love coffee and always seek out places where coffee is taken seriously. We always start the day with an espresso but also like to follow the caffeine hit that gives us with a filter coffee so that we can fully appreciate the quality of the beans and the roasting which manifests itself better with the less intrusive filter approach.
We also look for places that are likely to offer beans that have been processed naturally rather than the more wasteful washed process. We also find that the natural fermentation also gives flavours that are not generated through the more common washed process.
Black Swan in New Norfolk is a great place to enjoy a well-made coffee while perusing the fascinating, well chosen array of books that they have on offer. We think that there own description of what they do will give you the best idea of why we like this place […]
Shake a Leg Jr is a very good café serving excellent coffee (try the High Beam blend) and tasty pastries (Pigeon Whole Bakery, of course) in Moonah which is an outer suburb of Hobart where many young hipsters are moving to take advantage of slightly more affordable housing. The café […]
♥ Fundamental Espresso Bar in Devonport is a great place to enjoy a properly made espresso (from the gleaming, white La Marzocco machine) or any other style of coffee you prefer. The welcome is very friendly, the music is good, chosen from the large vinyl collection behind the coffee machine, […]

♥ Corona Update The Tasmanian Food & Wine Conservatory has closed during the shutdown. We will try to monitor their Web site and let you know when they reopen.
♥♥♥ Corona Update Bryher has reopened as of the 20th May and are serving some absolutely delicious looking food (think pork & veal crépinettes served on potato mash with a beef broth) – this is our sort of food.
Straight Up is a pleasant place to drop in for a very good coffee, breakfast, lunch or a light snack in the Hobart CBD. They are very skilled at roasting coffee beans!
♥♥♥ Corona Update Yellow Bernard reopened on the 25th May as a takeaway only venue but also with slightly more restrictive hours (7am – 2pm). We wish them well.
♥♥♥ Sash Coffee is providing a takeaway service for their delicious coffee during the lockdown. The following review was written prior to the lockdown, but serves to explain why we like this venue very much.
