Princes Square Bar – Delicious Coffee and Pastries

Princes Square Bar – Introduction

Princes Square Bar is one of our favourite places for coffee in Launceston. This tiny place run by Damien Webber manages to squeeze into a tiny space opposite the namesake park all that you need for a pleasant breakfast or a quick caffeine hit on your way to work.

We go to Princes Square Bar for a number of reasons. The first that it is a relaxing and welcoming venue run by the owner who has been there on every one of our visits. The second is that the coffee beans he uses are sourced from a very good roaster – local company Provenance Coffee Co which shares space with Ritual Coffee and Hatch Coffee in Invermay.

The third attraction here is that the pastries are sourced from two excellent suppliers – Sandy’s Sourdough (every day) and Sweetwheat (only on Wednesday to Friday due to their market commitments in Launceston and Hobart).

When you enter this tiny space you walk past a roll of light-brown paper attached to the wall that pays homage to our First Nation’s people and also provides the opening hours. Opening at 7am is a strong commitment from the owner, yet an excellent service for the many early starters in the city.

And speaking of the owner, it is worth checking out his Instagram posts – they are insightful and interesting while sometimes being obscure, especially in the posts quoting lyrics from songs by anyone from Lucinda Williams to Faith No More! And the music he plays here is well-worth listening to.
