Freycinet Marine Farm – Introduction
The Freycinet Marine Farm has been operating for almost 20 years now. You can visit here to purchase oysters to eat at one of the outside tables or to take away. But there is more than just oysters.
This simple café serves oysters which are prepared a number of ways, scallops (in season), abalone from a nearby producer, crayfish and mussels, all of which are simply prepared and served without fuss.
Don’t think restaurant when you go to Freycinet Marine Farm but rather think of it as an outlet for highlighting the quality of the local produce. We were delighted on our most recent visit that the oysters we tried had not been washed or turned and still retained the flavour of the sea in which they were raised.
The Pacific oysters are raised in Moulting Lagoon and then finished off in the deep waters about 5 kilometres out into Oyster Bay. They also produce Blue Mussels which are an excellent product and one that we use often in our own cooking.
Freycinet Marine Farm also runs an outlet called The Fishers at the Devils Corner Vineyard at Apslawn which is about half way between Swansea and Bicheno on the A3.
