Ashbolt Farm: Great Olive Oil

Ashbolt Farm Olive Oil is one of the best and most consistent oils produced in Tasmania. The dark green colour and the deep flavour set it apart.

From the moments you see the dark, intense, deep green liquid languidly dripping from the bottle, you know you are about to experience something special. Reward yourself by simply sipping some from a teaspoon to savour the intense and complex flavours that just seem to go on and on.

The production comes from 500 trees of mixed variety olives on the Ashbolt farm that are cultivated using organic fertilisers although the Ashbolts have not yet attempted to receive organic certification.

They also make a very good drink from elderflowers. This is a perfect alternative for those who crave a celebratory tipple but who, for whatever reason, eschew alcohol.

It is brewed from the lovely white flowers of the elder bush – the source of much folkloric medicinal tradition. It is reputed to aid in the elimination of toxins and to assist with chest colds and infections. Whether it does or not doesn’t matter – this is a very good drink in its own right!

It is good to see that the drink is made without any artificial preservatives, colourings or flavourings.

If you want to talk directly with the producer from Ashbolt Farm you will normally find Annie Ashbolt at her stand outside the Supreme Court every Saturday morning at the Salamanca Market.
