Vermey’s Quality Meats is an excellent butcher in Sandy Bay run by Marcus Vermey who took over the shop from his father. Marcus always has a great assortment of high-quality meat and good availability of less-easy-to-locate items such as offal. The staff are very friendly and always anxious to help in any way they can.
Marcus is also passionate about the craft of butchery and is willing to share his knowledge by conducting classes at the Agrarian Kitchen at Lachlan.
All the products sold at Vermey’s are of a very high quality.
We can always find Cape Grim Beef which is sourced from a cooperative of many beef producers on Tasmania’s North West Coast. If we are looking for something particularly special we can usually find Robbins Island Wagyu here.
Recently, when we decided we would like to cook a batch of the wonderful Provencal meatballs called caillettes we were able to order fresh caul here with just a couple of days’ notice.
They also often have rabbits of both the farmed and wild variety which are excellent for making the paella of Valencia. Other products that we are fond of which are sold here are various cuts of the Flinders Island Saltgrass lamb and the sausages that are made on the premises.
