Yellow Bernard reopened on the 25th May as a takeaway only venue but also with slightly more restrictive hours (7am – 2pm). We wish them well.
Yellow Bernard is a tiny but very serious coffee place in the centre of the Hobart CBD. The owners are very passionate about their coffee and on the many visits that we have made here the coffee has always been of a very high standard.
Recently we have been enjoying a cleverly made ristretto based on sensational Kenyan coffee beans from the highly regarded Gethumbwini estate which lies at a high altitude (1800 metres) some 40 kilometres north of Nairobi. The cherries are hand picked and fermented in water for 24 hours before being sun-dried.
There has also been another well-rounded chocolatey coffee from Costa Rica called Zamorana from an estate near San Isidro. This 100 year old family company harvests the cherries by hand and processes them naturally. They even recycle the pulp as fertiliser for the coffee bushes.
Lovers of a more bitter blend will like the Terali beans from Nepal.
